Introduce
Dr. Joyce McPeake Robinson
Dr. Robinson has combined her experience as an international educational consultant with her skill as an author working independently since 2005. Her dual interests have focused on English language learning and curriculum development. Her international consultancy has provided professional learning programs to schools throughout the U.S. and in Central America, Europe and Asia.
Dr. Robinson held the post of an administrator at Boston University, which is her alma mater for her doctorate in English Language and Master’s in English. Has devoted her professional time of more than 40 years, to education. She has worked as a classroom teacher of English and Reading and as an administrator in public and private schools in Colorado, Massachusetts, Florida, Virginia, and New Hampshire. At St. Andrew’s School in Boca Raton, Florida, Dr. Robinson became the first woman chair of the English Department. She also prepared teachers at universities presented an online English course for the New Hampshire Public Schools.
Dr. Robinson then spent 20 years of her professional life working as an administrator in international schools. She was Principal of the Islamic Saudi Academy, Alexandria, Virginia, and Head of The Dwight School, New York City, where she was the first woman Head of School. One of the few women Heads of independent international schools at the time, she was chosen to help evaluate a number of international schools for the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.
A continuing presence in the educational community, Dr. Robinson is past president and board member of the Association for the Advancement of Educational Research and board member of the National Academy for Educational Research. She is affiliated with the International Literacy Association, the Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development and Phi Delta Kappan, among other organizations.
She is a founding member of the International Women’s Review Board. She has also contributed articles to newspapers and periodicals and has presented papers at national and international conferences. Dr. Robinson has authored a number of academic publications over the years. Her current work is a volume set of books that supplement the core programs of Spelling and Vocabulary, The Joy of Knowing How to Learn, 2017. Her previous publications are: Fostering Creativity in Children K-8: Theory and Practice, published in 2001, and Portfolio of a School, published in 1998. In 1997, Dr. Joyce edited How to Double Your Child’s Grades in School.
Dr. Robinson is a member of three honor societies: Cum Laude Society (honoring scholastic achievement at secondary institutions); Pi Lambda Theta (which recognizes superior scholastic achievement and potential for leadership) and Phi Delta Kappan (a professional organizations for educators). In 2009, she received the International Peace Prize from the United Cultural Convention. The Board of International Research named her Woman of the Year in 2005, and in 1988, she received an Achievement Award from the National League of American Pen Women. She also was presented Teacher Awards from the National Council of Teachers of English in 1995 and the English Speaking Union in 1987. Dr. Robinson was featured in the 54th through 70th editions of Who’s Who in America and the 8th edition of Who’s Who in American Education, as well as several editions of Who’s Who in the World and Who’s Who of American Women.
